FAQ

We hope that this section will help answer some questions you may have for the Church at large and/or our fellowship.

WHY “GO” TO CHURCH?

The concept of church as we know it today originate in Old Testament worship and New Testament fellowship. Basically, it was God’s idea. Although the first Christians met in homes rather than separate church buildings as we do today, the concept was the same…to encourage and help followers of Christ, in order that they might serve Him and bring others into a right relationship with God.
(Hebrews 10:25)

WORSHIP/GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT/MANIFESTATIONS… WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE?

Our R.I.V.E.R.G.A.T.E. acronym explains a lot of the direct areas of worship. During our worship “time” you will often see: banners waving, dancing, painting/art, hands held up, people sitting/kneeling/standing, etc. We believe in the freedom of expression in worship- so however you feel free to worship, know you have freedom here. (Psalm 68:25, 63:4, 150:3-5, 135:2, 74:1, 132:9, 96:6, 149:3, 2 Chronicles 20:19; 1 Corinthians 14:15; Ephesians 5:18-19; 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, 14:1, 3, 26:40, 14:5, 13; Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4; Revelation 12:11)

IS THERE A “TYPICAL” SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE?

We feel like every week should have its own ‘flavor.’ So we want to let the Holy Spirit direct us… however, you will most likely experience: praise and worship, testimonies, preaching/teaching, ministry time and a time of fellowship.

WHY SO MUCH TALK ABOUT ISRAEL AND JEWISH HOLIDAYS? ISN’T THIS A CHRISTIAN CHURCH?

Yes! We are a Christian church but we feel that it is important to remember our Jewish ‘roots’ and to keep our heritage before us. Israel and her people are important to Jesus- so it is important to us.

WHO IS RIVERGATE AFFILIATED WITH?

We are affiliated with the Assemblies of God. Which is an international fellowship of churches which has churches, missionaries and Bible schools in the United States and around the world.

WHO IS “IN CHARGE” HERE?

Our goal is to have the Lord in charge of all that we do. Under Him, we have a Pastor, Board of Deacons and a Council of Elders that function in a leadership capacity here. There are also various leaders of “departments” within the church.

ARE WE AWESOME?

Yes!

WHAT CLOTHING IS APPROPRIATE TO WEAR?

Clothing that you feel comfortable in, that is modest. You are welcome to worship with us wearing a three-piece suit, or just a pair of jeans. Be you!

CAN I WEAR FLIP-FLOPS?

But of course!

WHY DO YOU HAVE FLAGS ALL AROUND?

We have flags of other countries to remind us that we are called to pray for the needs of the entire world, not just those that are here in Ashland and Southern Oregon or just America.

WHY DO YOU COLLECT MONEY AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

It helps to pay for: salaries, utilities, maintenance/upkeep of our grounds and building, benevolences, compassion ministries, missions/missionaries, guest speakers, and many other things necessary in order to maintain an organization, building, and personnel. The Bible also encourages us to give tithes/offerings. (Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:7; Luke 6:38)
